Where Is Your Home?
Friday, June 30th, 2006Recently heard in a documentary on Appalachia:
“Mountain people can always tell you where home is. It’s where they will be buried, in the family plot.”
Will I be buried? If so, where? I was raised in the suburbs. There is no family plot. I feel a disconnection.
Home is an abstract idea, particularly in the afterlife. But I can’t help thinking there’s something to this. How our culture has changed in the last hundred years, even in the hollers of West Virginia.
