The Sheep Meadow

30 July 1997
The Sheep Meadow is one of the more popular destinations for sunbathers, frisbee throwers, and the loafers of New York. It was actually a meadow belonging to a herd of sheep who were kept indoors at what is now the Tavern on the Green restaurant. The sheep were moved upstate in the early 1930s over concerns of people taking them for food during the Great Depression. I love the contrast of green grass, trees, and the modern skyline as a backdrop.
