Custom House Staircase
The Alexander Hamilton Custom House sits at the bottom of Manhattan, across from the Bowling Green. It’s now a museum, but once handled custom duties and such.
There is some great architecture, inside and out, and the rotunda and adjacent lobby are splendid. But, my eye was drawn to a staircase off to the side. It’s not a grand staircase, but one with utilitarian intentions despite its decorative character. The curvature and warped nature makes it very pleasing to my eye.
