Autumn in Central Park

Roller Dancers

First, I drop in on the roller dancers near the Mall. This first photo is one of my favorites of the year. This is one of those panning shots where I tried to follow the action. Often I lose focus on my subject, but this one came out pretty good.

Bow Bridge

The variety of colors around the park is particularly evident on The Lake, and the view from the Bow Bridge in the afternoon is always a delight.

Bow Bridge

The most famous bridge in Central Park, seen in many, many movies, is the gracefully curved Bow Bridge. It was built around 1860 and spans the lake from Bethesda Terrace to the Ramble.

The Dakota

The Dakota Apartments is a modestly scaled building overlooking the park. It tops out just above the tree line, and is most famous for the people who live there. Notably, it is the site of John Lennon’s assassination.

In this first photo, I was across the Lake, and had a framing between the tree line and the foreground branches, which you can see around the top and bottom of the frame.

Dakota From a Distance

Through the trees and across Central Park's Lake lies the Dakota apartments on 72nd and Central Park West. Famous for many reasons, but most noteably because John Lennon lived here and was assassinated at the building's entrance.

Sugar Maples

The park’s maple trees have some of the most vibrant colors.

Lake and Pond

Finally, a few random photos. One of The Lake in the late afternoon sun against the backlit trees, and two from The Pond.

Muted Colors

The autumn shadows cause muted colors on the lake in Central Park.
