Shadow and Motion

Tonight, I set out to capture shadows and motion, mostly around Columbus Circle and down Broadway toward Times Square. I was oriented toward black and white, but was not going to exist strictly there if the situation called for color.

Subway Grates

I like the way these subway grates reflect light. They’re just shiny enough, under all that grime, to produce some nice effects—sometimes the lines are soft, sometimes they’re sharp.

Perpetual Motion

Times Square is in perpetual motion.

Places to go

The people of NYC always seem to have places to go. I like to catch them on their way.

Broadway Traffic

One of the main things I wanted to try tonight was capturing motion. I crudely set out to follow things with my camera as I exposed. In my opinion, it was an experiment that produced some things i liked, but it turns out it’s extraordinarily difficult to retain focus while moving the camera.

An Assortment…

Finally, a smattering of subjects that spoke to me from this evening.

Deep Thoughts

A couple sits, eyes locked on one another, drowning in the noise-dampening fountain at Lincoln Center.
