Macro Shots

I’ve been experimenting with this 105-mm macro lens to see if I want to buy it. Here are some shots taken mostly in the Spuyten Duyvil neighborhood.

The best shot, for me, is this one of a thorny bush. The focus works and the air was calm when I took this—you never notice the slightest movement of air until you try to shoot with a macro out in the wild.

Danger

A thorn, and attached web.

This shot of the berry would benefit from focus stacking several photos. Generally, I like the photo, but it bothers me that the center of the berry is not in focus. The focused areas create a ring around the center of the berry.

This next shot is a close up of a fly on a flower. I like how the background is so blurred that the flower appears to just float in space. The fly came out a little out of focus… but I’m still learning on this lens.

Fly on Flower

Used the macro lens to catch a fly on a flower.

Finally, a bit of an abstraction. Here, I shot some bottles on a bar in one of the sushi places where I eat occasionally. I like how the colors and the blurry quality of the image work together.
