Battery Walk

Timelapse Sunset

I wanted to experiment with my neutral density filter and timelapse with tonight’s sunset. I went to the Battery—the southern tip of Manhattan—and froze my fingers off. But, I caught some satisfying shots, I think.

First, two shots of the sunset at normal exposures, without filter.

Next, I attached the filter and set my exposure time to 25 seconds, with a closed down aperture of ƒ/25. This was enough to not saturate the sensor, and give me some nice smoothing effects.

Finally, the sunset on Jersey City. This is a shorter exposure—the sun had largely passed behind the clouds on the horizon. The long exposure still creates that “glassy water” effect.

Winter Garden

Across the street from the World Trade Center is the Winter Garden, one of these quasi-public spaces. It has rows of palm trees inside a glass wall and ceiling structure.
