Day 11

Venice to Florence

A quick morning walk

Today we’re heading to Florence, but first Suzanne and I decided to take one last, early morning walk around Venice. The Sun was finally out and we wanted to see the sunny version of Venice. We walked into the Cannaregio section which, if you consider that Venice is shaped like a fish, it’s up toward the head of the fish.

The neighborhood is where most of the natives live. We saw shopkeepers getting their store ready, the garbage men were cleaning up the streets, and lots of kids were walking to school.

Stillness

Stillness in the morning waters.

We only had about an hour to roam before we had to be back at the hotel. After breakfast, we all headed to the train station. Took the number 2 vaporetto to the train station and looked for our train, due to depart at 10:43.

Train to Florence

The trip to Florence takes about four hours, with only a few stops. The largest city we pass through is Bologna.

On the Train Again

On the train from Venice to Florence, with a pear we picked up.

Tuscan Countryside

The Tuscan countryside from our train.

No sooner had we wheeled our suitcases along Florence’s cobblestone streets to the hotel, than it started to pour with rain. There was even a little thunder and lightening.

We walked around after the rain, but we took advantage of the rainy weather to catch up on sleep too, giving us full tanks for tomorrow.
